Available Resources

Secure Coding: Lecture notes and class materials for CSE 8990-01 Special Topics in Computer Science: Secure Coding, given Spring 2007. This was a graduate course on developing secure software. The course assumed that students have already had an introduction to computer security. These materials could be helpful in similar courses at other universities. The public has permission from the authors to freely copy and adapt these materials for educational purposes.

Slides and notes on regression models of software metrics data (supported by NSF grant CCR-0132673):

Experience

Dr. Allen's first year at Mississippi State University was 2000. He began his career as a programmer with the U.S. Army. From 1974 to 1983, he performed systems engineering and software engineering on military systems, first for Planning Research Corp. and then for Sperry Corp. From 1983 to 1992, he developed corporate data processing systems for Glenbeigh, Inc., a specialty health care company. From 1995 to 2000, he conducted research in software engineering at Florida Atlantic University. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) , a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and a member of the American Scientific Affiliation. He is also an affiliated researcher with the MSU Center for Computer Security Research, the MSU Institute for Neurocognitive Science and Technology, and the MSU Institute for Digital Biology.

Education

Ph.D. in Computer Science, Florida Atlantic University, 1995
M.S. in Systems Engineering, University of Pennsylvania, 1973
B.S. in Engineering, Brown University, 1971

Research Interests

He has more than 70 refereed publications in these areas. For more information:

Empirical Software Engineering Research Group

The Empirical Software Engineering research group is an informal forum for mutual help and collaboration in software engineering research. The group meets weekly throughout the year. Attendance and the email list are open to all who are interested.

All students who work for me or for whom I am major professor are members of the Empirical Software Engineering research group.
