Research

Imagine having the opportunity to work side-by-side with scientists who find new ways to deliver aerosol drug delivery by using computational engineering simulation or working on projects that will help NASA create safer vehicles for space exploration, or studying methods for developing high quality software to support all types of exciting domains. Those are just a few of the exciting research projects taking place at Mississippi State. There are many more exciting opportunities for students to gain valuable experience and even some undergraduate students have had the honor of sharing the title of co-author for many research articles. It's a rare occasion for a university to give undergraduates that type of opportunity, but it does occur here at Mississippi State.

Faculty members in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) conduct research in artificial intelligence, computer security and forensics, high performance computing, software engineering, and visualization and computer graphics. Both graduate and undergraduate students have the opportunity to participate in projects that involve collaborations with researchers and scientists not only on our campus, but at other universities and in industry as well. Two major research centers have developed from projects within the CSE Department - the Center for Computer Security Research and the Institute for Digital Biology. In addition, faculty and students are actively involved in research conducted at other research centers on campus such as the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems, the High Performance Computing Collaboratory, and the Institute for Neurocognitive Science and Technology.
